Insula College
The Insula College is a comprehensive school of Christian nomination. It caters for about 1100 pupils of different backgrounds from Dordrecht and its surroundings. There are around 80 teachers and around 30 other staff members, ranging from classroom assistants to our headmaster. It is situated in Dordrecht, a beautiful historical town in the province South-Holland, surrounded by large rivers bustling with activity. Although Dordrecht with its 122.000 inhabitants is a medium sized town, it is close to Rotterdam, a metropole with an international focus. The Insula College is part of the H3O foundation, which includes different institutions, amongst which several primary schools.
Our school is an Anglia school. this means that our pupils are given the opportunity to assess their skills in English as a foreign language using an English organisation. The Insula College offers its pupils an opportunity for an international career, as it has now embedded the Proficiency Accept Anglia exam in its curriculum. Our aim is to offer all our pupils the chance to obtain this certificate before leaving school. Anglia certificates are drawn up according to the CEFR (Common European Framework) and are recognised by major universities worldwide.
The Insula College offers trips to a host of European countries, such as Germany, England, Spain, the Tsjech Republic, France, Greece and Belgium. Before, during and after those trips, our teachers work to widen the knowledge and understanding of young people of the diversity of European cultures and languages. But these trips also help pupils to acquire new skills and insights, boosting their personal development, preparing them for future employment and for active European citizenship.
Furthermore, our school is very pleased to emphasize the importance and relevance of science classes for the future of our pupils. As a universum school, a special focus is placed science and technology, using a network of schools and universities to collaborate.
A further stimulus for pupils is provided by the participation in annual national contests in several subjects. Insula College offers multi-level teaching and differentiated classroom management to suit the needs of every pupil.
